I was born in Jakarta, the polluted capital city of Indonesia, in 1989. Before coming to Singapore, I started to take interest in photo editing and photoshop used to be my favorite tool as it does the magic of beautifying photos that i took, especially to remove pimples. However, at that moment I still didn't know anything about graphic design despite the fact that I started to claim myself as a 'designer'. Funny thing is that a few of my friends and cousins started asking me to 'design' stuff like birthday invitations and posters for them when I knew nothing about design (seriously, if I show you those artworks that I 'designed', you'll be stunned by how 'creative' I was). Be that as it may, I always thought that graphic design is the path that I'm going to take no matter what.
Early 2006 I decided not to finish my senior year and applied for advanced diploma of visual communication in Raffles Design Institute, Singapore. Packed my bags and I landed in Singapore in June 2006. After the first year of study, I started to realize that I shouldn't have claimed myself a designer. I was totally lost because graphic design is so much wider than I thought it was. I started to learn from the basic and after the second year of study, which is my final year in diploma course, I was granted with the Top Student Award in advanced diploma class of visual communication by Raffles Design Institute. That was the best year of my life; everything became so clear that I did not make a mistake by taking this path.
During my degree year, which is the third year of my study with RDI, I learned how to do research before we move to the design phase. It is actually quite useful and very important because without doing proper research, we will not give the best solution to the problem that we are about to solve. That is something that I am still learning until now. On top of that, I finally graduated with Bachelor Degree of Visual Communication in June 2009 with satisfying results and a creative mind ready to blow the industry. I primarily work in print based graphic design, covering all areas of design. Currently, I am working with a design house in Singapore as a graphic designer. As much as I enjoy working with them, I plan to open my very own design studio in a couple of years, maybe 5 or 10. Singapore may not be the place on how I picture myself in the next five years but it is a good place to start learning.
